More Christmas Break Fun-Dec. 21

One Sunday after church we got in our comfy clothes and headed to the backyard. We had a ton of leaves to play in. I went to get the leaf blower, instead of raking. Wes had a lot of fun blowing leaves among other things.Blowing the water out of Kodi's water bowl.
And even blowing me!
Wes is about to head down the slide to the leaf pile.

Where'd he go?
Daddy's turn!

For dinner that night we headed to the Domain to eat at California Pizza and see the Macy's Christmas tree.
Then we headed to one of my favorite Christmas places in Austin, 37th Street.
It's a whole street where everyone puts out a ton of lights. Many of the houses have very unique decorating ideas!

Just a ton of lights!

Gingerbread House and Our House

The last few years Wes and Auntie Em have decorated a Gingerbread House for the holidays. Wes really enjoys that time with Em and eating all the candy and icing is always a plus!
Wes LOVES Christmas lights. For the last 4 years we spend a lot of time in the car listening to Christmas music looking at people's lights. We have always put out a few lights but we decided to do a little more in Wes's honor. The first night we drove up and all our lights were on, I could see Wes just staring with a huge grin. Simple!

Christmas Fun at School

The last day of school before the Christmas break, Wes's class had a party. They decorated gingerbread men and then had a book exchange!
The finished product!

That last week the kids also performed some Christmas songs. So sweet!

Only To Be Just Like Daddy

Wes is always wanting to be like his daddy! So sweet! With a serious face he tells me sometimes he is needing to work, and he'll head to the computer or get some tools out. And yes, he even needs to shave every once and awhile!

Tonight I again let Wes read a book to me. This one was a lot longer and harder. No problem. How is it that one day he can't read at all and the next he can read it all? I'm afraid he'll be shaving before I know it, too!

Reading 101

Wes has been learning blends at school and they just finished the alphabet a week or so ago. He knows a lot of words of course but just from memorizing them not from sounding them out. Last night we pulled out some beginning reader books (Thanks, Summer!) and what do you know. Wes sounded out every word all by himself. He had a smile on his face after every word he said!!! Thanks Mrs. Smith for teaching Wes to read and great job Wes for paying attention in school.

Christmas Tree

Saturday afternoon we headed out to get our Christmas tree. We usually have great luck at Home Depot so we started there. We found one rather quickly and headed home. Wes and I had fun hanging the lights and ornaments on the tree! Maybe I'll try to take a night picture so the lights show! I let Wes have colored lights on the tree this year even though my preference is all white. He was so excited about that. I'm enjoying the colored lights just knowing Wes is loving having them.

Thanksgiving Weekend

We had a great Thanksgiving. We spent the entire day with the Tindel side, lots of fun and food! The rest of our time was spent putting up Christmas and just having fun as a family. One of Wes's favorite things to do this time of year is rake leaves and make a huge pile. The weather has been pretty warm around here so we don't have a ton of leaves that have fallen yet. Maybe in a few weeks we can make a huge pile.
What easy fun!
Where's Wes?

I love this guy!
