Only To Be Just Like Daddy

Wes is always wanting to be like his daddy! So sweet! With a serious face he tells me sometimes he is needing to work, and he'll head to the computer or get some tools out. And yes, he even needs to shave every once and awhile!

Tonight I again let Wes read a book to me. This one was a lot longer and harder. No problem. How is it that one day he can't read at all and the next he can read it all? I'm afraid he'll be shaving before I know it, too!

Reading 101

Wes has been learning blends at school and they just finished the alphabet a week or so ago. He knows a lot of words of course but just from memorizing them not from sounding them out. Last night we pulled out some beginning reader books (Thanks, Summer!) and what do you know. Wes sounded out every word all by himself. He had a smile on his face after every word he said!!! Thanks Mrs. Smith for teaching Wes to read and great job Wes for paying attention in school.

Christmas Tree

Saturday afternoon we headed out to get our Christmas tree. We usually have great luck at Home Depot so we started there. We found one rather quickly and headed home. Wes and I had fun hanging the lights and ornaments on the tree! Maybe I'll try to take a night picture so the lights show! I let Wes have colored lights on the tree this year even though my preference is all white. He was so excited about that. I'm enjoying the colored lights just knowing Wes is loving having them.

Thanksgiving Weekend

We had a great Thanksgiving. We spent the entire day with the Tindel side, lots of fun and food! The rest of our time was spent putting up Christmas and just having fun as a family. One of Wes's favorite things to do this time of year is rake leaves and make a huge pile. The weather has been pretty warm around here so we don't have a ton of leaves that have fallen yet. Maybe in a few weeks we can make a huge pile.
What easy fun!
Where's Wes?

I love this guy!

Character Day and Young Authors

Friday was Character Day at school. All the kids came dressed up as their favorite character in one of their books. Wes has always loved his 20 or more Tonka books, so his costume was easy. The morning carpool to school with Coby and Micah!

There was an optional project of writing a book. Wes wrote a book about T-rexes!
Mrs. Weed (Mary Poppins) was passing out the awards for the books.

Circus

Sunday afternoon we headed to the circus. We meet up with Papa, Nana, Kelli, and Brandon! Wes absolutely loved it! When we ask him what his favorite part was he listed everything!
Nana with the grandkids!Wes and Kelli
They had a ton of tigers in the cage and one huge lion!

I didn't enjoy this part of the show at all! It was very stressful to me. No nets or foam at all under these guys! Thankfully the only time one of them lost his balance he was the only one up there and he caught the rope! Yikes!

Lots of good elephant tricks
It was a good time for all! Glad we went!

Fall Fun at Sweet Berry Farm

For several years Wes and I have gone to Sweet Berry Farm twice a year to pick strawberries and blackberries, but we've never made it for their fall activities! What fun! We started with the Kids' Maze! Super, extra sweet fun is how we describe many things with Wes, and that's how the maze was! He really loved running through the grain field! Our extra sweet farmer!
We then headed to the hayride! Very dusty and thankfully a short ride. We were then off to feed the goats! Wes liked feeding the little ones!

Time to paint a pumpkin!
Wes said his favorite thing of the day was making a scarecrow!
Here he is helping stuff!

Wes by his scarecrow and painted pumpkin!

It's time to go home! We have an hour drive and Mr. Scarecrow has a ton of hay in him! Our noses didn't start running til we were pretty close to home!

Fire Station

Wes's class went to the fire station this week as they are studying community helpers. The kids acted great and learned so much. While we were there they did get an emergency call that required the EMS truck to leave. It was good, because they could see the truck rushing off but the field trip didn't have to be shortened due to everyone leaving. I'd like to share one of our family's traditions that involves firemen, EMS, and the police. Anytime we see an emergeny vehicle with it's lights on, we immediately pray for the people involved and the workers who are helping them. I do hope that if you don't already do this, you will start.
Wes was very proud that he sprayed the water the highest.

Our Family Trip Day Four

Our last day came too quickly. We woke up and headed down to the beach. It was drizzling but we were able to still build a sandcastle and I was able to find some good shells on the beach. After a few hours we had to come in and pack up. Every year as we are headed out of town we stop for a picture in the big shark's mouth and look for souvenirs.

Our Family Trip Day Two and Three

Saturday morning we woke up VERY early and headed to go on our bay fishing trip. On our boat ride out to the bay, we were able to see many porpoises in the water! Very glad Wes could see so many in the water.

I think Daddy caught this redfish but Wes and I did out catch Daddy.

This is Wes hanging out after being on the boat for several hours. Soon after this he was asking to quit! The fish had stopped biting at this spot and he was getting a little bit bored.
Hanging out on the cooler.

Wes caught the last catch of the day! Flounder!!!

There's our little flounder!

Wes and I both caught a sheepshead. His black stripes were really dark when we first caught them. If you open up their mouths they have teeth that look like sheep's teeth. Crazy looking!

Yummy trout! It was the first catch of the day by none other than me! Wes helped me reel him in.

After fishing all morning we finally headed to the beach!
This smiley face portrays our entire trip! Lots of fun!

Wes spent many hours playing with his construction trucks and building different sand castles with Daddy!

Sunday was our first day to have nothing else to do. We had planned to be on the beach the entire day. We got our there early and had been playing in the sand for awhile. We were distracted by the woman running down the shore yelling to get out of the water. There's a shark she was yelling. We stood and began searching to see. Todd kindly ask her if she was sure that it wasn't just a porpoise maybe. He soon had to apologize and say, Yea you are right. Pretty unnerving! It was a good 4 feet or so and it was just so far in I don't know how it was able to swim around. We waited a long time and watched as it swam away following the current. As you can imagine Wes had no interest in getting in the water after that. We decided to take a break for lunch. At that time Todd was able to talk to Wes about the shark and the ocean and convinced him it was ok to go in. Wes spent the rest of the time in the water on his boogie board! I spent most of my time watching the water instead of Wes. YIKES!

Feeding the seagulls!
